A Missouri man has been sentenced to prison for child sex crimes and is appealing

CLINTON, Mo. (KCTV) – A Missouri man given 23 consecutive life sentences for human trafficking and child sex crime convictions has appealed the sentence.

Records filed on Saturday, October 19, in the Circuit Court of Henry County, Missouri, revealed that Derek B. Roberts, 45, has appealed his sentence of 23 consecutive life sentences for his child molestation convictions.

Court documents show Roberts filmed himself performing explicit sex acts on children in his home. Most of his victims appeared to be under the age of 12, although some were under the age of 9.

Roberts was charged and convicted of eight counts of sex trafficking of a child, 11 counts of sodomy and four counts of rape. He was convicted of the crimes on October 11.

Court records also showed that Roberts was also convicted of possession of child pornography in 2021. As of Monday, October 21, Roberts remains behind bars at South Central Correctional Center in Licking.
