AMD Ryzen 7 9800X3D spec leak confirms frequency and TDP

AMD Ryzen 7 9800X3D spec leak confirms frequency and TDP

Christmas has come early thanks to MaxSun, as the new support chart reveals almost everything when it comes to AMD Ryzen 7 9800X3D. The motherboard manufacturer has listed the new CPU alongside some specs, giving us a taste of what’s to come.

According to MaxSun’s support page, the cards should support the unreleased 9800X3D using the latest BIOS version. Interestingly enough, this chip was listed as a Ryzen 9 model instead of being the Ryzen 7. This could be a simple typo, or AMD may be planning another name change. Hopefully not, because simpler is always better.

The 9800X3D is presented as a 120W CPU, clocked at a base speed of 4.7GHz. Yes, you heard it right: basic, no turbo. In other words, this model features a 900 MHz higher frequency than its non-X3D equivalent, Ryzen 7 9700X. This is quite strange because so far all 3D V-Cache chips run at lower base/boost clocks compared to their stock counterparts.

In fact, this is the highest base clock on any Ryzen 9000 yet, likely made possible thanks to the increase in available power. That said, we don’t know the official boost clock yet, although rumors point towards 5.2 GHz or even 5.4 GHz, i.e. 300 or 100 MHz lower than 9700X.

Maxsun Support List.

Note that this X3D part was listed next to the non-X Ryzen 5 9600 CPU. The latter appears to operate at a base frequency of 3.8 GHz, i.e. 100 MHz lower than 9600X. Apart from the boost clock, which may also be lower, the rest of the specs are identical to the X variant, with 32MB cache and 65W TDP.

As for price, assuming AMD continues the same segmentation used on the Ryzen 7000, the 9800X3D should come in at $399 or $409. That said, some US retailers are already offering it for up to $524. Depending on the performance boost, this could be worth an upgrade, especially for those who own Zen 4 or older processors. We should know more on the 24th.
