‘Neo-Nazi’ who plotted terrorist attacks from Falkirk home is sentenced in Edinburgh

A ‘neo-Nazi’ white supremacist who amassed an ‘arsenal’ in his Stirlingshire home will be sentenced in Edinburgh.

Alan Edward, a former journalist who idolized Hitler, was found guilty of planning a series of terrorist crimes, including intending to commit an act of terror.

The 54-year-old had spoken about attacking a Scottish LGBT group, a jury heard in September.

He was arrested after armed police surrounded his two-storey end-terrace home in Redding, Falkirk, and forced open his front door in September 2022.

They found weapons and equipment, including a crossbow with telescopic sights, fourteen knives – some with Nazi and SS insignia – machetes, a tomahawk, a samurai sword, brass knuckles, a slingshot, an extendable baton and a stun gun.

They also found an air pistol modeled on the ‘James Bond’ Walther PPK, an SS-style skull mask, goggles and a gas mask, combat gloves with specially hardened knuckles, pellets, ball bearings and hunting points for crossbow arrows.

Prosecutors said this amounted to “an arsenal.”

The High Court in Stirling heard that Edward “held and expressed a set of ideals with a neo-Nazi outlook, which included notions of white supremacy, the idea of ​​racial purity of whites, racism, anti-Semitism and hatred of homosexuals and transgender people.” ”.

He was also found guilty of racism, anti-Semitism, Holocaust denial and legal breach of the peace.

All wrongdoing was denied by Edward.

Prosecutor Paul Kearney KC, deputizing for the barrister, said Edward was “a man who with clear neo-Nazi ideals… prepared for an act of terror that would involve an ideologically driven incident of serious violence”.

Edward will be sentenced at the High Court in Edinburgh on Monday 21 October.
