Woman admitted to poisoning her boyfriend with antifreeze because he thought he had inherited million

MINOT, ND (KFYR/Gray News) – A North Dakota woman was convicted of poisoning her boyfriend after she believed he had inherited $30 million.

Ina Kenoyer, 48, was sentenced to 50 years, initially 25 years. That means she will serve 25 years in prison and the remaining balance of 25 years will be suspended, KFYR reported.

Prosecutors said 48-year-old Ina Thea Kenoyer poisoned Stephen Riley, Jr., with antifreeze based on the false belief that she would inherit part of a multi-million dollar inheritance.

After receiving the news, the couple met with an estate attorney on September 3, 2023.

That day, Riley became ill and the next day, paramedics arrived at his home and found him unresponsive.

He was pronounced dead on September 5.

Researchers later discovered that that legacy probably didn’t even exist at all.

Ryan Riley, the victim’s 21-year-old son, told The Post that the couple had actually fallen victim to an online scam and that there had never been any money.

Stephanie Gonzalez, Riley’s sister, said Kenoyer stole more than just a human life.

“You stole my son from his mother and stepfather. You stole a father of five sons, a brother of two sisters, an uncle of twelve nieces and nephews, and a great uncle of eight, and many friends. How does it feel to have taken so much for absolutely nothing?” she said.

Kenoyer will also have to pay restitution to the victim’s family.
