US 60 closed near Gold Canyon due to a downed utility line

GOLD CANYON, AZ (AZFamily) – Residents in the Far East Valley are experiencing detours due to a highway closure early Sunday morning.

The Arizona Department of Transportation says US 60 is closed in both directions at Mountain View Road near Gold Canyon, about ten miles outside of Apache Junction. Officials say the highway is closed as crews work to repair a downed power line in the area.

Eastbound traffic will exit Ironwood Road southbound. From there, drivers can take Hunt Highway east to SR 79, where they can jump back onto US 60, according to ADOT.

Those wanting to go to Apache Junction should expect delays in the area.

There is no estimated time to reopen the highway.
