Microsoft confirms that the app crashes when using the camera in Windows 11 24H2

The recently launched Windows 11 version 24H2 has quite a long list of known issues, and Microsoft just confirmed more. The newly discovered bug could be a reason why some users are not “seeing” the update on their systems, as Microsoft has put an upgrade block in place to prevent a poor user experience.

According to a notice published in the official Windows documentation, certain Windows computers with Windows 11 24H2 installed may experience application crashes when using the integrated camera with features such as face or object detection, including authentication with Windows Hello -facial recognition.

Unfortunately, no fixes are possible at this time, so affected customers will need to revert to Windows 11 version 23H2 (or older) or wait for Microsoft to release a fix. Users with previous versions of Windows 11 and 10 will not be offered version 24H2 through Windows Update, and Microsoft recommends that you do not manually update to the latest version. IT administrators can check Windows Update for Business reports with the security ID 53340062.

Another bad thing about this problem is that there is no way to determine whether your computer is affected by the bug or not. All we know is that the bug affects client versions of Windows 11 24H2. Therefore, customers with integrated cameras that support face and object detection and want to move to Windows 11 version 24H2 will either have to risk it all and update manually (click here if you have an unsupported PC) or wait for a solution. Microsoft says it is working on a fix and will provide more information as it becomes available.

Other known bugs in Windows 11 version 24H2 include incorrect reporting on Disk Cleanup, fingerprint issues, compatibility issues with certain wallpaper apps, problems installing the update on certain ASUS devices, and more. You can see the full list in the official documentation.
