22-year-old woman identified as victim in Shelby Farms shooting, SCSO confirms

MEMPHIS, Tenn. (WMC) – A woman was shot and killed in Shelby Farms Park Saturday afternoon, according to the Shelby County Sheriff’s Office.

The shooting happened around 12:15 p.m. in the visitor center parking lot at Shelby Farms Park.

The woman was pronounced dead at the scene by Memphis Fire Department paramedics.

The suspect drove away from the scene. This is an ongoing investigation.

According to eyewitness testimony, the murdered woman was a participant in a walk for breast cancer survivors at Shelby Farms.

The eyewitness added that the suspect was in a white vehicle, fired and then drove away.

In an update, SCSO identified the victim in today’s homicide as 22-year-old Ellie Claire Young of Henning, Tennessee.
