Charges have been filed against the man who threatened the Missouri dispatcher with murder

RIVERSIDE, Mo. (KCTV) – A man who called a Missouri police station and threatened a dispatcher with murder has been charged with harassment.

Platte County, Missouri District Court records show that Tony L. Jones, 32, of Kansas City, was charged with harassment on Tuesday, October 15, after he allegedly threatened a dispatcher on the phone.

Court documents show that on October 8, Jones allegedly called the Riverside Police Department with questions about posting bail. He was told his bond would cost $750, for which he accused the department of malicious prosecution.

Phone recordings further captured Jones telling the dispatcher that he would shoot anyone who tried to arrest him and kill anyone who tried to take his firearm. He was arrested on October 14 because of the threats.

During an interview with investigators, Jones denied that the phone number was his or that he was calling the station. When the station recovered the call, a phone in his possession began ringing.

After Jones was taken into custody, law enforcement officials said they discovered he had multiple active warrants for his arrest and a similar criminal history. These include active traffic warrants in Independence, a 2017 arrest for criminal threatening in Olathe, a 2018 battery conviction in Johnson County, Kansas, and more.

As of Saturday, Jones has since been released from custody. A hearing in the case is scheduled for Nov. 12 at 1:30 p.m. No further information has been released.
