PHOENIX (AZFamily) – A three-year-old child died Friday evening after being pulled from a backyard pool in west Phoenix.

Fire officials say it happened at a home near 83rd Avenue and Lower Buckeye Road around 7:30 p.m.

It is unclear how long the child was underwater before being pulled out.

First responders began CPR when they arrived on the scene, Phoenix Fire Chief Shaun DuBois said.

The child was rushed to the hospital but later died, officials said.

At this time, authorities have not provided any details about the child’s gender. It is not yet known who called 911.

No word if there was a fence around the pool.

Phoenix police are investigating.
