Algiers man who killed two sentenced to 60 years after pleading guilty

NEW ORLEANS (WVUE) – An Algiers man accused of two murders and an attempted rape in 2021 will spend 60 years in state prison after pleading guilty to lesser charges Friday (Oct. 18).

Sharod Williams, 39, has averted a trial scheduled to begin next week by accepting a plea deal approved by Orleans Criminal Court Judge Tracey Flemings-Davillier.

Williams pleaded guilty to two counts of manslaughter, felon in possession of a firearm, obstruction of justice, aggravated assault with a firearm and simple robbery. Attorney Michael Kennedy negotiated the plea deal with Orleans Parish prosecutors and said his client was remorseful for his crimes.

New Orleans police said Williams fatally shot his 35-year-old girlfriend Brianisha Caine at their Verret Street home on April 30, 2021.

About two months later, police say Williams was interrupted during his attempt to rape a woman at a Central City apartment on June 15, 2021.

The next day, Williams fatally shot 45-year-old Terrance Johnson in the 1300 block of France Street in the St. Claude neighborhood, he admitted in court Friday. Police said Johnson was found dead in the roadway after suffering multiple gunshot wounds.
