Microsoft confirms a new bug causing blue screens of death in Windows 11 24H2

Windows 11 version 24H2 is a major feature update with a complete OS change, meaning it has its own list of known bugs and issues. Some of these problems are quite serious and cause blue screens of death. Therefore, Microsoft has blocked the update to 24H2 on affected devices. However, now we have another known bug that causes system crashes. This time it’s happening on PCs with the Voicemeeter app.

According to a notice published by Microsoft in the official documentation, Windows 11 version 24H2 with the Voicemeeter app installed crashes to a blue screen of death with the MEMORY_MANAGEMENT error code. That happens because of compatibility issues between Voicemeeter’s driver and the operating system’s memory manager.

As with other serious issues and bugs, Microsoft has discontinued system compatibility with the Voicemeeter app. Therefore, you will not see Windows Update version 24H2 when you try to check for updates. Microsoft also strongly recommends that you do not manually update your system using the Setup Assistant or the Media Creation Tool. However, uninstalling the Voicemeeter app may unblock it after some time (up to 24 hours).

For now, the only solution is to uninstall Voicemeeter and all its components. Alternatively, you can wait until VB-Adusio Software releases a newer version with the necessary improvements. Microsoft says it will provide updated information as it becomes available. Another thing worth mentioning is that the compatibility issue only affects client systems running Windows 11 version 24H2. Older versions of Windows 11 and Windows 10 remain unaffected.

If you plan to update to Windows 11 version 24H2, including unsupported devices, make sure to check out other known issues such as app crashes when the integrated camera is in use, issues with Asus devices (some of them can’t get version release at the moment) 24H2)
