Tuscaloosa man sentenced to life in prison for murdering ex-wife

FAYETTE COUNTY, Ala. (WBRC) – A man accused of murdering his ex-wife was sentenced to two life sentences.

The Alabama Attorney General’s Office says 41-year-old Travis Terrell Williams attacked 48-year-old Maronda Parker Williams. She was found dead in her home on January 21, 2020, by a friend on Alabama Highway 18 East outside Fayette.

Williams pleaded guilty to two counts of murder during a hearing in Fayette County Circuit Court on October 16, 2024.

“I am pleased that we were able to obtain justice for Ms. Williams and her loved ones without subjecting them to an emotional and difficult jury trial,” said 24th Judicial Circuit District Attorney Andy Hamlin. “My sincere hope is that he spends the rest of his life behind bars.”

Williams had recently been released from prison after serving a sentence for a conviction in Tuscaloosa County when he went to his ex-wife’s home on January 19, 2020. He made the trip because she agreed to lend him money, and became violent when she offered $50 less than the $250 he requested, according to the district attorney’s office.

Maronda Williams was found dead two days later. She suffered multiple injuries from the attack and two blood-covered knives were found in a rubbish bin outside the house. Evidence at the scene showed that Travis Williams had broken a window and arranged items in the house to make it look like a burglary.

The district attorney’s office says evidence also shows that Travis Williams threw Maronda Williams’ phone, wallet and shoes in the trash can at a gas station on Highway 43 North when he returned home to Tuscaloosa that morning.

“Travis Williams has a long history of violence, and our community is safer now that he is behind bars,” Hamlin said. “This case underlines the importance of supporting victims of domestic violence and holding perpetrators accountable for their actions.”
