Hospital kidnapping victim a scammer: police

Calcutta: One day after one Netai Dey was rescued from Gangasagar West Midnapore and four of his ‘captors’ were arrested. Police said they were planning legal action against the victim after it emerged he had cheated on them over a period of several months.
Police said he was paid a whopping Rs 48 lakh for admission to a private medical college. However, even after admission was not obtained, this money was not refunded.
Police said the victim was abducted on October 14, but his family members informed SP and Sundarbans Kolkata Police on October 16. A day later, he was rescued by Jadavpur police from Rasulpur in West Midnapore.
Four were arrested for the kidnapping: Tanmoy Das, Sarathi Das Adhikari, Tushar Das Adhikari and Himadri Roy. The police are also investigating the origin of the money.
Dey claimed that he could get admission in any medical college in the state, including KPC Medical College, through a quota of Rs 70 to 80 lakh. He advertised that it was easy to get into the medical college and provided a contact number. He is said to have collected Rs 4 to 5 lakh from those who contacted him in the first phase. Four from W Midnapore sought admission for their children and met Dey outside KPC. They claimed to have paid him Rs 48 lakh.
