New Franklin man sentenced to life in prison for murder of Barberton man in 2022

NEW FRANKLIN, Ohio (WOIO) – A Summit County Common Please Court judge on Friday sentenced a New Franklin man to life in prison for the 2022 murder of another man.

Eric Mendoza, 41, pleaded guilty Oct. 8 to the murder of 53-year-old Jeremy Fisher.

Judge Joy Malek Oldfield sentenced Mendoza to life in prison with the possibility of parole after 18 years, according to a release from the Summit County Prosecutor’s Office.

New Franklin police said Jeffrey Fisher, of Barberton, was shot in September 2022 while fleeing “a domestic altercation” at a home on Dailey Road in New Franklin.

The 53-year-old was riding away on his motorcycle when he was shot.

New Franklin police said officers were initially called to the motorcycle crash, but once on scene realized Fisher had gunshot wounds.

He was pronounced dead at the scene.
