It’s Champions Day at Ascot, and top tipster and presenter Ed Quigley, aka ‘Longshot Ted’, is back with his best bets on a killer card and takes a look at Sunday’s action…

Saturday

  • Ascot 3.15 – Henry Longfellow – every bet with Betano
  • Ascot 3.55 – Economics – bet with Betfred

Sunday

  • Kempton 2.15 – Idy Wood – bet with VBE
  • Kempton 4.00 – Casa No Mento – bet with bet365

✨ Ascot 1.55 – Bucanero Fuerte each way

BUCANERO FUERTE hasn’t quite hit top gear this season, but seems capable of standing out here, having needed the last few runs to stage a comeback after a minor setback.

As a two-year-old he was absolutely the mustard, and this Group 1 winner is not coming here without a fight for a big price. Slow terrain won’t be a problem, and this is the division capable of producing shocking results, as we saw in this race last year, and at Haydock last month.

Bucanero Fuerte was overwhelmed in the minimal drive at the Curragh last time and should be much happier moving back to 6f for this assignment.

David Egan is riding the colt who, according to official figures, is in the thick of things here and it would be far from a shock if this combination ended up on the frame for a huge price.

✨ Ascot 3.15 – Henry Longfellow one way

It has been a hit-or-miss season for the trained Aidan O’Brien so far HENRY LONGFELLOW, and he seems to have the right game to shake things up here for the powerful combination of Aidan O’Brien and Ryan Moore.

Undefeated as a two-year-old, things haven’t gone entirely well for the Dubawi colt so far this season, but there are signs he’s not a million miles away from another attack, as we’ve seen on this trail and Distance back at Royal Ascot , when he was beaten just a neck by the high-class Rosallion in the St James’s Palace Stakes.

A return to this number won’t be a bad thing, and cutting into the ground won’t be a problem either. This is a hot race, but the garden is on fire, and it’s not hard to imagine Henry Longfellow playing a role on the business side of proceedings in what should be an absolute highlight of a race.

Ascot 3.55 – Economics

This is a sensational innovation to the Champion Stakes, and this could go the way of the winning machine ECONOMY for the combination of William Haggas and Tom Marquand.

The three-year-old is looking to become a five-timer and arrives here following his first win at the top level when he defeated Auguste Rodin in an epic contest in the Irish Champion Stakes last month. For a relatively lightly ridden horse, he showed a great mix of class and grit as he took on a battle-hardened rival to claim victory.

This is another stacked meet, but it wouldn’t be a surprise to see more improvement come from the Night Of Thunder colt. The conditions underfoot should not be a problem and he can end a great season in style by dining here at the top table, while the garden continues to function well.

Calandagan is a formidable opponent, but this time this could go the way of the ‘home team’.

✨ Kempton 2.15 – Idy Wood

IDY WOOD has a good track record and showed smart form in the autumn of last season, so this is one to note in the Chase debut. The Jamie Snowden-trained representative was a smart winner at Fontwell on his Hurdling debut, and was a winner on another occasion at Plumpton.

He also managed to finish third in a Grade 2’s at Cheltenham and at this circuit, so a solid body of work in the locker. He looks like the type physically who should benefit immensely from tackling a fence and he has the potential to prove much better than a BHA rating of 120 in this discipline.

Gavin Sheehan takes on the ride with this unexposed individual, and a major achievement should be on the cards for the son of Coastal Path. The Jamie Snowden team had a great season last season and more can be expected from the Lambourn handler again in the coming months.

✨ Kempton 4.00 – Casa No Mento

This is a fascinating encounter, with last year’s winner Rubaud should have many of these in trouble in terms of ratings. However, many of Paul Nicholls’ strings have taken the run to get into top gear, and so it may be worth looking elsewhere.

Taking a lot of weight from her rivals, Nigel trained Twiston-Davies’ six-year-old CASA NO MENTO has won four of her last five starts and appears to be going from strength to strength.

She is versatile when it comes to underfoot demands and has an excellent track record when fresh, so her re-emergence after a 171 day absence should not be seen as a negative, especially as the base’s yard is in Cotswold operates at a strike of approximately 30%. rate for October.

She will likely be completely gung-ho for this assignment and could serve it up to her higher-rated rivals here, who may be eyeing bigger prizes down the road.
