A local physiotherapist has now had his license revoked following allegations of preying on elderly patients

PATRICK COUNTY, Va. (WDBJ) – Disturbing documents obtained by WDBJ7 from the Virginia Board of Physical Therapy are filled with encounters local physical therapist Stephen Maynard Scott had with his elderly patients.

It started when Scott worked for a rehabilitation center outside our region in 2021.

A report from the Virginia Board of Physical Therapy alleges that Stephen Scott engaged in sexual conversations with one of his patients, an 81-year-old woman.

The documents show that Scott sent her text messages saying things like, “I like older women” and complimenting her legs.

After a complaint, Scott was placed on probation in May 2023.

Months later, the documents say he began having inappropriate conversations with another elderly woman he was treating at a local rehabilitation center in Stuart in Patrick County.

The documents show that the woman was recovering from a stroke and had symptoms of dementia and depression.

It started in January 2024, when Scott thanked her for a Christmas card. He then allegedly sent several sexual messages and photos.

Many details are too graphic to share, including Scott saying he masturbated at work while sending the messages.

This was all reported to a Patrick County Sheriff’s detective. In February 2024, Scott was suspended from rehab after learning of the ongoing investigation.

According to the state report, his company discovered more than 30 open tabs on his work computer that listed dating sites for the elderly and sexual messages he had sent to various women at work.

Scott’s license was revoked last week.

WDBJ7 learned he also faced child pornography charges in Henry County in 2022, but the charges were dropped.

The Commonwealth’s Attorney told us there were allegations that he requested photographs of a four-month-old child. Because the child was wearing underwear, there was no child pornography.
