A Jefferson County man admits he got “pumped up” before the bank robbery

Authorities say a Jefferson County man is behind bars for allegedly robbing a bank Wednesday morning.

Police say just after 10:30 a.m., 36-year-old Justin Hopkins allegedly handed a handwritten letter demanding money to a teller at Marion Center Bank in Big Run Borough.

Troopers say the letter allegedly said, “Give me the money, I have weapons ready.”

Police say Hopkins then fled the bank on a bicycle with more than $800 in cash and registered accounts.

According to the affidavit, investigators say Hopkins was arrested a short time later near Brown Street and Mitchell Avenue in the neighborhood.

Authorities say that when they questioned Hopkins, he allegedly told troopers that he had “pumped himself up” to commit the robbery and that he planned to rob another bank in Punxsutawney.

According to online court records, Hopkins is charged with one misdemeanor count of larceny and theft, as well as one misdemeanor count of making terroristic threats.

He is being held in the Jefferson County Jail on $100,000 bail.
