According to the police, the suspect obtained child pornography via Telegram. A supplier named Raj would send these videos.

The boy would earn a 30 percent commission on the sale of each video, PTI reported.

The racket was busted after the cyber police in Gorakhpur received a tip-off from a volunteer organization.

The police arrested the boy on Thursday and confiscated his mobile phone.

The boy told police that he would distribute the illegal videos through the mobile application Nekogram and Telegram.

Senior Superintendent of Police Gaurav Grover said the suspect was charged 3000 per video. The price of such videos would amount to 20000.

“The suspect charged customers 3,000 per video, with some videos costing as high as 20,000. After receiving the payment, he would send most of the money to his supplier ‘Raj’,” he said.

Grover said an FIR has been lodged against the minor under relevant sections of the criminal law.

He said cyber police are trying to identify other persons involved in the suspect’s child pornography distribution network.

‘Child pornography a crime’

In September, the Supreme Court ruled that merely storing such material is an offense under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offenses Act (POCSO Act).

In its judgment, the Supreme Court suggested that Parliament should bring a bill to amend the POCSO Act to replace the term “child pornography” with “Sexually exploitative and abusive material of children”.

“We have proposed to Parliament to table an amendment to the POCSO… so that the definition of child pornography can be defined as material containing sexual abuse and exploitation of children. We have suggested that a regulation could be introduced. We have asked all courts not to refer to child pornography in any order,” the court said.
