Child on bicycle killed in collision with truck in Maassluis

A child on a bicycle was killed in a collision with a truck in Maassluis on Thursday morning, the Rotterdam police reported on X and wished the boy’s relatives “good luck”.

The accident happened around 8 a.m. at Dokter Jan Socutenlaan. Emergency services tried to resuscitate the boy, but to no avail. He died on the spot.

It is unclear how the accident could have happened. Correspondents told Rijnmond that the truck driver was devastated.

Police have closed the road for investigation.

It is the second fatal accident in the Netherlands involving a truck this week. On Monday, a garbage truck hit a tourist in Amsterdam. The 69-year-old woman from the United States died on the spot.
