James Gunn Confirms Beloved Character Debuting in ‘Superman’

James Gunn has announced that a beloved character will debut in his upcoming film Superman film – read more below.

Gunn announced via social media on Tuesday evening (October 15) that Krypto the Superdog will make his live-action debut in his upcoming film opposite the Man of Steel, David Corenswet.

The writer-director’s announcement came in the form of images showing Superman and Krypto sitting side-by-side on a nearby planet as they watch the Earth spin on its axis. Gunn wrote that Krypto’s addition to the film was inspired by his own dog, Ozu, whom he had adopted shortly after he began writing the screenplay for Superman.

Gunn explained: “Ozu, who came from a hoarding situation in a backyard with 60 other dogs and never knew people, was problematic to say the least. He immediately came in and destroyed our house, our shoes, our furniture – he even ate my laptop. It took him a long time to even let us touch him. I remember thinking, “Gosh, how hard would life be if Ozu had superpowers?” – and so Krypto entered the script and changed the shape of the story while Ozu changed my life. What better time to debut the not-so-good-boy Krypto than #AdoptAShelterDog Month.”
