Danville man sentenced to life in prison for predatory criminal sexual assault of a child

A Danville man will be sentenced to life in prison on six counts of predatory sexual assault of a child.

Robert Musson, 59, was found guilty of six counts of predatory sexual assault of a child following a jury trial that concluded on August 14, 2024.

Evidence was presented at trial by the People that Danville police had received reports of two minor victims being sexually abused by Robert Musson at various times between 2016 and 2020.

The Vermilion County Child Advocacy Center and the Peoria Child Advocacy Center assisted Danville police with the investigation and interviews.

During the trial, the child victims provided compelling testimony about the abuse they suffered between 2016 and 2020.

The victim described that after she told a family member about the abuse following one of the incidents, Musson told her he was “sorry.”

The victim’s mother stated, “While the children were growing up, I tried to protect them from monsters, not knowing that the biggest monster lived under the same roof.” The victim’s father thanked members of the Vermilion County Child Advocacy Center, the Danville Police Department Investigation Division and the Vermilion County State’s Attorney’s Office for making the victim always “feel protected and loved.”
