Kidnapping suspect pleads guilty to lesser charge in Forrest Co., sentenced to 5 years in prison

FORREST COUNTY, Miss. (WDAM) – A North Carolina man accused of kidnapping in Forrest County has agreed to plead guilty to a lesser charge.

Jahziel Guerrero has agreed to plead guilty to neglect of a child on October 9, 2024, according to Forrest County Circuit Court.

Guerrero was arrested following a disturbance in November 2021, but a kidnapping charge was added after Hattiesburg police discovered a child was involved.

Following the guilty plea, Guerrero was sentenced to five years in the custody of the Mississippi Department of Corrections and to pay a total of $1,950 in fines, restitution and court payments.

Guerrero was also placed on probation for five years, with court documents showing that he is prohibited from having any contact or communication with the victim or their immediate family.
