Former sports leader sentenced to one year in prison for mismanagement of public funds

KUWAIT CITY, October 16: The Court of First Instance (Misdemeanor Division), presided over by counsel Abdullah Al-Aslawi, sentenced a former sports leader to one year in prison and acquitted a former international player in a case involving allegations of professional negligence and maladministration of public funds allocated to sports clubs.

The Public Prosecution Service has accused the suspects, in their role as government employees, of causing significant damage to their employer’s resources as a result of their negligence and failure to fulfill their duties. This resulted from their approval and approval of a request for financial support for local championships, which was contrary to applicable regulations and resulted in the misuse of public funds.

The court expressed satisfaction with the evidence presented by the prosecution against the first defendant, but disagreed with the allegations against the second defendant, noting that the evidence was weak and insufficient to reach the level necessary for a conviction.
