This article contains spoilers for tonight’s Coronation Street, which has not yet aired on TV but is available to watch now on ITVX.

Coronation Street has confirmed who wielded the gun in the murder of Joel Deering (Calum Lill), and it’s quite a shock.

The hunt for Joel’s killer has begun after his body was recovered from a river earlier this week and the pathologist confirmed he had been murdered.

Despite being taken off the case, DS Lisa Swain (Vicky Myers) was desperate for the latest details, and questioned Kit Green (Jacob Roberts) for updates.

As Kit explained that they were looking for a crowbar as they believed it was the weapon used to kill Joel, the pair were interrupted by a curious Ronnie Bailey (Vinta Morgan), who was also looking for the latest news.

However, Kit refused to give it to him, and Ronnie had to wait until much later for inside information.

As Lisa went about her day, she was shocked to discover from Yasmeen Nazir (Shelley King) that Mason Radcliffe (Luca Toolan) had been in possession of a crowbar.

The detective sergeant quickly passed the information on to Kit, before warning daughter Betsy Swain (Sydney Martin) to stay away from Mason.

When Betsy concluded that he was under investigation, she confronted him and warned him that the police were on him.

Terrified that he would become involved in the burglaries his brothers were planning, he tried to ditch the crowbar, but was caught red-handed by Kit.

While being questioned, Mason denied murdering Joel, despite having no alibi and motive.

Kit pointed out that he seemed close to Betsy and could have killed Joel in her defense, but Mason vehemently denied it. However, it soon became clear that he was not telling the truth.

In a flashback, we learned that Betsy had visited Mason the night of Joel’s death, terrified that he would hurt her, and Mason had promised he wouldn’t allow that.

Despite there being a motive, there was no evidence on the crowbar showing that it had been used to attack Joel, so Kit let him roam free.

After his interrogation, Mason warned Betsy that they should stay apart, and explained how he was now in the frame of Joel’s murder. Shocked, Betsy confronted Lisa about accusing Mason in front of Dee-Dee Bailey (Channique Sterling-Brown).

As Lisa rushed off to make amends with her daughter, Dee-Dee told Ronnie about the situation and explained how the police were looking for a crowbar as a murder weapon.

In the second flashback of the episode, we saw Ronnie rummaging through tools at the construction site before pulling out a crowbar. Does this prove he was the perpetrator?
