Giorgi Mamardashvili confirms what he plans to do at Liverpool if Alisson Becker does not leave

Giorgi Mamardashvili was one of two signings made by Liverpool this summer, with the Georgia international moving to Anfield next year.

The Reds paid almost £34 million to sign Valencia goalkeeper Mamardashvili, who is currently in La Liga, on loan for this season, with the 23-year-old shot-stopper considered one of the most exciting talents in the position in Europe.

With Liverpool already having perhaps the best goalkeeper in the world in Alisson Becker, Mamardashvili faces a major challenge next season as the Georgia superstar has to replace his Brazilian counterpart as the starting goalkeeper at Anfield.

And Mamardashvili has now shared what he plans to do if Alisson is still at Liverpool next year.

Mamardashvili promises to compete with Alisson for Liverpool’s number 1. 1 shirt

Speaking to El Desmarque, Mamardashvili vowed to fight for the starting goalkeeper position even if Alisson is still a Liverpool player, with the former AS Roma star likely to be on Merseyside and Arne Slot’s starting option for 2025 will be.

Although Alisson revealed he had interest from Saudi Arabia, the 32-year-old goalkeeper is unlikely to leave Liverpool until his current contract expires, which could leave Mamardashvili on the bench next season.

However, Mamardashvili appears determined to go for the No. He is number one in Liverpool’s starting XI and the on-loan Valencia goalkeeper is not short of confidence when it comes to going up against Alisson for the position.

Mamardashvili said: “I was attracted to the Liverpool project when the club’s representatives met to sign me. I will fight for the starting position as goalkeeper, even if the current goalkeeper does not leave the team.”

Mamardashvili may have to brace himself for a year on the bench

Mamardashvili is undoubtedly an exceptional goalkeeper in the making, with the La Liga star a fitting successor to Alisson at Anfield and a player who could become a real cult hero at Liverpool in the coming years.

Looking ahead to next season, Mamardashvili may have to brace for a season on the bench, with Alisson unlikely to leave while the Brazil international continues to produce moments unlike any other goalkeeper in the world.

Mamardashvili’s time at Liverpool will come, however, but the Georgian international may have to prepare for what could be a year of little football unless Alisson’s injury record remains as inconsistent as it has been this season.
