Ryan Sharpe sentenced to life in prison; found guilty in the death of Brad DeFranceschi

EAST FELICIANA PARISH, La. (WAFB) – Alleged serial killer Ryan Sharpe was sentenced to life in prison on Tuesday, Oct. 15, after being found guilty in the death of Brad DeFranceschi, officials said.

Officials said Sharpe’s sentence comes without the possibility of probation and parole.

“I am pleased that this case has been concluded and pray that the victims of these senseless crimes will have a sense of relief,” said Samuel D’aQuilla, the 20th Judicial District Attorney.

The guilty verdict in the DeFranceschi case was reached by a jury in East Feliciana Parish in August 2024.

According to D’Aquilla, the twelve-member jury reached the unanimous verdict after less than an hour of deliberation.

The prosecutor said Sharpe was previously found guilty in December 2019, but that verdict was overturned after the U.S. Supreme Court banned split sentences. The latest verdict came after a new trial.

Sharpe is also accused in the deaths of Thomas Bass in East Feliciana Parish and Carroll Breeden in East Baton Rouge Parish, officials said. They added that Sharpe also allegedly shot and wounded Buck Hornsby in East Feliciana Parish.

Authorities say all of the shootings occurred in 2017.
