The Republic of Zimbabwe Police (ZRP) have arrested a 30-year-old woman for allegedly attacking her 10-month-old daughter with a stick at Temberere Village, Zimunya, Mutare, on October 11, 2024. The shocking incident came to light after a disturbing video circulated on social media, showing the woman violently attacking the child, demanding she shut up and forcing her to crawl.

The graphic nature of the images has sparked widespread outrage, calls for action from the public and serious concerns about the welfare of children in the community. In other news, Zimbabwe reports first cases of Mpox

In a worrying development for public health in Zimbabwe, the Ministry of Health and Child Care has confirmed the first cases of Mpox, formerly known as Monkeypox, in the country. The announcement, made on Sunday evening, states that two persons have tested positive for the virus, with cases reported in Harare and Mberengwa.

Both patients are currently in home isolation and receiving appropriate care, with health officials stating they are stable and recovering. The first case involves an 11-year-old male who traveled to South Africa in August 2024 and returned to Zimbabwe on September 10. Read more
