The trial of the Akron murder suspect who represented himself continued

AKRON, Ohio (WOIO) – The trial of the 33-year-old man accused of killing an Akron mother in July 2022 was continued until November due to “unforeseen evidentiary issues.”

The trial of Quinton Nixon began on October 1 before Judge Christine Croce.

Nixon is representing himself and the evidentiary issues arose during testimony on October 9.

Judge Croce continued the trial until November 5.

Akron police said Nixon killed 34-year-old Toni Westover on July 25, 2022.

Westover was found shot to death in a home in the 2200 block of Maryland Ave. in Akron.

According to police, after Westover’s murder, detectives worked tirelessly following up on leads, conducting interviews and examining evidence.

Nixon was arrested in August 2022.

Westover, a medical assistant, is survived by a seven-year-old daughter.

“She loved being a mother,” her sister said. “Her daughter was her world.”
