Students of Delhi University are fighting for justice amid police inaction

A Delhi University student, 19, has alleged police negligence in handling her harassment complaint against a taxi driver. The student claims the driver, linked to an online taxi service, took her to a remote location with the intention of assaulting her. She managed to escape but later faced police inefficiency.

According to her complaint to senior police officials, the student was introduced to a driver whose identity was different from that displayed on the taxi aggregator’s online platform. An FIR was lodged, with minor charges imposed despite the seriousness of the charges, and the driver was released on bail the same day.

The incident, which occurred on October 5, has raised serious concerns about passenger safety and police conduct. The student emphasizes the threat to her safety, as the driver is aware of her living environment. The taxi company is urged to investigate its inattention in allowing access to an unverified driver.
