New Woodbury County LEC fully operational, prisoners transferred

SIOUX CITY, Iowa (KCAU) – The new Woodbury County Sheriff’s Office has announced that the new jail is fully operational and inmates have been transferred to the new jail.

According to a release, the Woodbury County Sheriff’s Office began moving all 210 inmates from the old jail to the new one Friday at 10 p.m. The first prisoners were removed from the old prison at 11:15 PM and the last prisoners were transferred to the new one at 6:15 AM.

Local agencies are raising awareness for Domestic Violence Awareness Month

The news release states that the transition involved 70 Woodbury County Correctional Officers, 40 Woodbury County Deputies and Reserve Deputies, and 2 Iowa Department of Corrections Prison Guards. Calls for service were handled by the Iowa State Patrol during the transition.

“Our staff has been preparing and training for this move for over a year, and I couldn’t be more proud of them,” said Woodbury County Sheriff Chad Sheehan.

The Woodbury County Jail will be fully operational at 8 a.m. on Oct. 12, according to the news release.
