“She is genuinely shocked and deeply hurt,” Castledine said. “I think there is also a sense of betrayal, not just from Chelsea, but also from Denise because she kept it a secret for weeks.

Penny is meant to go back to Paris and literally think this is the end of her life, her career, everything. So she feels a great sense of betrayal towards Denise. Shortly afterwards she has a huge outburst of anger. and she’s not afraid to show it, I think she gets that from her dad.”

She added that both women will “lose their filters” when Penny confronts Chelsea, and that it will be “very raw and very real.”

“The guilt is eating Chelsea alive, but I don’t think Penny cares, because Chelsea put her through it, and sometimes you have to pay the price for your actions. I think that’s what Penny is trying to preach about Chelsea in the test of strength,” she explained.

“The drama is just beginning for Penny, and there is still a lot to unravel between Penny and Jack’s relationship.”

EastEnders airs Monday to Thursday at 7.30pm on BBC One. The show is also streaming on BBC iPlayer, where most episodes start early at 6am, ahead of their TV broadcast.
