Tamil Nadu Police arrest three for online fraud | Chennai News

Tamil Nadu police arrest three persons for online fraud

MADURAI: The Madurai rural district cybercrime police have arrested three men in Puducherry on charges of various online frauds.
The police received a complaint on June 28. The complainant stated that he was defrauded of Rs 1.3 crore by online scammers on the pretext of offering a part-time job. On the instructions of Madurai District Superintendent of Police BK Arvind, a police team was formed to investigate the case.
Police said that tracing the bank accounts to which the money was sent and further investigation revealed that three people were behind the fraud through a Indusind Bank account. The trio were identified as K Vadivelu, 44, and E Jairam, 30, from Puducherry and K Ramalingam, 48, from Villupuram. Ramalingam had opened bank accounts to help the other cybercriminals and received Rs 1 lakh as commission. The bank accounts, containing a total of around Rs 2.2 crore, were frozen.
Police have seized a laptop, SIM cards, mobile phones, ATMs and passbooks. It was found that the accused had cheated many people through various online scams in various states including Andhra Pradesh, Jammu and Kashmir, Kerala, Maharashtra, Rajasthan, Telangana, Tripura, Gujarat and Uttar Pradesh to the tune of around Rs 1.5 crore .
Police said in case of any financial loss due to online fraudthe public can call the cybercrime helpline 1930. Complaints can also be filed through the website www.cybercrime.gov.in.
