Mount Pleasant’s Kopech eliminates Padres in 8th place as Dodgers advance to NLCS

LOS ANGELES (KLTV) – Back in April, it must have been hard for Michael Kopech to imagine being in the position he was in Friday night.

The Mount Pleasant resident, who plays for the White Sox, one of the worst teams in modern history, couldn’t have imagined he would appear on national television in October, with a stadium full of raucous fans hanging from every field.

But after Jake Cronenworth chased the high 100-mph fastball for the strikeout, he roared along with the rest of the stadium as he led his newest team, the Los Angeles Dodgers, to within three outs of a place in the National League. Championship series.

Kopech, who was traded to the Dodgers in July, took a 2-0 lead in the eighth inning with his team. Kopech got Xander Bogaerts to line out and David Peralta to pop out before striking out Cronenworth.

Kopech only needed nine pitches in the inning. Eight of these were strikes.

The Dodgers went on to win the game 2-0, and the series 3-2. They’re playing the Mets with a World Series berth on the line.
