Janika killer wants to clear name

One of the men convicted of the rape and murder of Heinz Park teenager Janika Mello has approached the Western Cape High Court to hear additional evidence which he claims will prove he was framed .

Allester Abraham’s application comes four months after he was sentenced to 20 years in prison mang for the horrific incident that led to Janika’s death.

Abraham was sentenced along with Leeroy Rose by Judge Pam Andrews.

Janika, a Year 6 student at Northwood Primary School in Woodlands, went to a karaoke at Portlands High School on August 31, 2019, to support a local football club.

The teenager was later dropped off near her home by a taxi and her half-naked body was found in her backyard the next morning.

According to crime scene photos, officers found several used condoms at the scene, while the post-mortem report showed she had multiple vaginal and anal wounds.

During the trial, Rose claimed he saw Abraham throw a rock on Janika’s head.

The duo were subsequently both found guilty of two charges of rape and one of murder.

The judge said she believed Rose had concealed the identities of other people who could have raped Janika.

Now Abraham plans to bring a group of bandits from Pollsmoor to testify in his defense.

According to the documents filed this week, Rose allegedly bragged during his transport to prison that he had falsely implicated Abraham in the murder.

Abraham’s lawyer further states the following bandit reported the conversation to their lawyers, who in turn told him.

This week it was revealed that the new evidence could not be heard as the bandit were not brought into court to testify and the case was adjourned until October 31.
