Candidate commits suicide due to 'intimidation', 7 booked

Patiala: Panchayat candidate Gulzar MohammedNardu’s suicide in Nardu after an attempt on his life and ‘forced’ withdrawal of nomination have prompted police to file a case against seven villagers.
Gulzar, 50, took his own life on Wednesday after supporters of a rival candidate allegedly harassed him to that point. After he withdrew from the race, a rumor spread that he had accepted money to resign. His son, Sajrukh Khan, filed a complaint with the Kheri Gandia police station that harassment of his father had increased after the withdrawal of the appointment and the distress had increased. “forced him to consume poison.” The accused Sarabjit Singh, Raj, Sharanjit Singh, Jatinder Singh, Tarlochan Singh, Tara Singh and Gurmeet Singh were charged under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) Act. On September 30, Gulzar was driving with his son when a group shot at him from a car and fled. Police claimed to have involved Pritpal Singh and his gang in this attack.
