Man sentenced to more than 35 years for fatal shooting outside Wichita nightclub

WICHITA, Kan. (KWCH) – The man is facing charges for last year shooting and killing another man and wounding two others in the parking lot of an east Wichita nightclub will be nearly 70 years old when he is released from prison, if he completes the sentence handed down last Friday, October 4, in Sedgwick County District Court.

Late last week, a Sedgwick County judge sentenced 33-year-old Terrence Johnson to 427 months (35 years, seven months) after Johnson agreed to plead guilty to both second-degree murder and attempted first-degree murder.

In the violent crime that occurred in late October 2023, police said Johnson shot 23-year-old Jaylon Pete outside the Onyx nightclub, located near Kellogg and Webb Road.

Police said Johnson encountered Pete in the parking lot and the 23-year-old man was found suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. Pete recovers from his injuries at a local hospital. Two other men, aged 24 and 26 at the time of the crime, suffered serious but non-life-threatening injuries.
