Administrative employee convicted after stealing from her employer: Prosecutor

TOMS RIVER – A Manahawkin woman has been sentenced to prison after pleading guilty to stealing from her previous job while working as an administrative assistant, authorities said.

Dona Carlo-Tanzola, 51, was sentenced to five years in prison in connection with her guilty plea to theft while working as an administrative assistant at the engineering firm Horn, Tyson & Yoder, Inc., Ocean County Prosecutor Bradley D. Billhimer said. Carlo-Tanzola will also have to pay $139,698.56 in restitution.

An investigation by Long Beach Township police revealed that Carlo-Tanzola, through her employment with the company, received checks made payable to the company and deposited them into her personal bank accounts for her own use between May 2022 and November 2022 . said. To cover her theft, she doctored the company’s financial records by removing paid invoices from customer accounts.

In total, Carlo-Tanzola embezzled dozens of checks totaling $178,774.35, prosecutors said. After being confronted about the theft, Carlo-Tanzola made a partial restitution.

According to Billhimer, Carlo-Tanzola was arrested without incident on January 9, 2023. She was processed and charged via summons pending future appearances in Ocean County Superior Court.

Billhimer recognized the diligent efforts of Assistant U.S. Attorney Taylor Toscano, who handled the case on behalf of the state, and commended the Long Beach Township Police Department for their efforts in connection with this investigation that led to Carlo-Tanzola’s guilty plea and now her state prison sentence.
