Ayden man faces up to 10 years in prison for drug trafficking

CARTERET COUNTY, N.C. (WITN) – An Eastern Carolina man has been convicted in a 2022 drug trafficking case.

Marvin Murphy, 41, of Ayden, was sentenced to seven and a half to 10 years in prison after pleading guilty to trafficking fentanyl, according to District Attorney Scott Thomas.

He must also pay a fine of $100,000.

Thomas said police and officers bought drugs from Murphy in the summer of 2022 while undercover. Law enforcement officers purchased suspected heroin for $1,000. Shortly thereafter, authorities arrested Murphy.

The district attorney said this was a joint operation between the Morehead City Police Department and the Carteret County Sheriff’s Office.
