2026 Winter Olympics: Curler Bruce Moat aims for gold in Italy

He is clearly benefiting from his period of reflection and the improvements made during that time – with the ultimate goal of Olympic gold in Italy in 2026.

“I think there are a lot of little things I could have done better – I could have really eaten better to fuel myself, I probably could have worked harder in the gym,” he added.

“Curling probably has a bad reputation with people who think you don’t need to go to the gym, but you do, for all kinds of reasons.

“Next week I’m going to Switzerland and there is the opportunity to play 18 games in six days, so that has a lot of impact on your body.

“Each game lasts about an hour and a half, each time you play you burn about 1,000 calories. If you burn up to 3,000 calories every day, you have to eat a lot more to fuel yourself.

“So there were a lot of things that I needed to educate myself on and I was fortunate enough to work with a nutritionist to get that information and understand why I need to eat more and what I need to eat to get those slow-burning carbs .”

Although their selection is yet to be confirmed, Mouat’s rink will have the opportunity to defend their European title in Finland in November.

That marks the start of a huge 16 months, which he hopes will end with Winter Olympic glory in Milan.

“We have a few objectives. We want to get back to the Europeans and defend that title, we want to be the team selected for the World Cup and we want to be able to win it like we did in 2023.

“Then hopefully we will be selected for the Olympic Games. We got silver last time, so if we can do better again, that would be great.

“We are good enough, we are proving that this year, but it is not about accepting that we have worked hard and that it will all pay off. We have to keep doing that, then we can certainly aim for that gold.” at the Olympic Games.”
