AUGUSTA – A Waterville man pleaded guilty Friday to murder in connection with the December 2023 slaying of a co-worker, as part of a plea deal that avoids a life sentence.

Spridal Hubiak, 21, admitted to killing Angela Bragg, 52, also of Waterville, at Damon’s Beverage in Waterville on December 27, 2023.

It was the second time he had pleaded guilty, with his first plea in August being thrown out by Superior Court Judge Michaela Murphy over concerns that the court had not ordered an investigation into Hubiak’s mental competency.

A review has since taken place and while it was not discussed in court on Friday, Murphy said the results of the review meant Hubiak could enter his guilty plea.

Hubiak responded “guilty” when Murphy asked him for his plea to murder on Friday.

Murphy and Lisa Bogue, an assistant attorney general, said a plea deal was reached in which Hubiak will not be sentenced to life in prison, but to several years in prison, with a minimum sentence of 25 years.
