BBC launches investigation into the prevention of abuse of power

Detailing the details of the review, the BBC said on Friday that all organizations have hierarchies and individuals “with power and influence over others”.

“There is also the potential for individuals with power from an important public profile, leadership role or star status to abuse their position,” the company added.

“At the BBC we have a responsibility to ensure we have the right culture, not only to enable people to do their best work – free from abuse, but to ensure that the same values, expectations and standards of apply regardless of the person involved. .”

The review will provide “practical steps to prevent abuse of power and further strengthen our workplace culture,” the mandate said.

It will recommend measures to “ensure that the consequences of inappropriate behavior and abuse of power are understood by all”, and that any significant complaints are dealt with promptly.

It will also look at ways to “ensure people have the confidence to speak out and that managers and leaders can act decisively”.

The review will be carried out by Grahame Russell, executive chairman of management consultants Change Associates, and is expected to be completed next year.
