In pictures shared on Instagram, she can be seen posing with two other friends at a Durga Puja pandal in Kolkata. One of her friends wore a long black dress with a thigh-high slit. The other was seen wearing an orange mini dress with knee boots. All three outfits were deemed ‘indecent’ and ‘vulgar’ by social media users, who criticized the three women for dressing inappropriately at a religious place.

“It was so rebellious, we never thought it was possible. As a girl we always knew that our bodies were ‘BAD’ but life is such that it gives new examples and experiences (sic),” wrote Sannati Mitra, the model-influencer who shared the photo on Instagram.

Outrage over outfits

All three outfits were labeled inappropriate on social media platform X, where the photo has sparked serious backlash. The photo was shared on X by several people, including activist Deepika Bhardwaj, and received tens of thousands of views.

People criticized the three women for turning a religious celebration into a photo session to attract more attention. Hundreds of X users expressed outrage over their choice of attire while visiting Durga Puja pandals in Kolkata.

“Call me regressive, but this is downright stupid,” one X user wrote.

“I know everyone has the right to dress however they want, but isn’t it just common sense to dress accordingly when visiting a temple,” another commented.

“No matter how modern or open-minded you are, even I don’t like or approve of such clothes in holy places like temples,” an X user agreed.

Several people wondered if the photo had been edited in any way. Others called for stricter rules on who can enter pandals.

“At first I thought it was edited… but it seems real and yet so unreal. How can they be allowed by the committee?” asked an X user.
