Moss Point man sentenced to 28 years in prison for sexually assaulting 14-year-old

MOSS POINT, Miss. (WLOX) – On Thursday, court officials announced that 32-year-old Lavern Marzel Williams of Moss Point was convicted in Jackson County Circuit Court of sexual battery and touching a child for lascivious purposes.

Circuit Court Judge Kathy Jackson on Tuesday sentenced Williams to 28 years in the Mississippi Department of Corrections without the possibility of parole or parole.

Williams was first taken into custody on May 14, 2021, after Moss Point Police Department officers learned that a 14-year-old had informed her family members that she had been sexually assaulted by Williams, who was in a relationship had with her aunt.

An investigation was launched, which ultimately led to the uncovering of DNA evidence and Williams’ arrest. He was going to admit to his crimes during his guilty plea.

“It takes incredible courage for a child to open up about his or her abuse,” said District Attorney Angel Myers McIlrath. “This young victim’s courage in disclosing her abuse and confronting her abuser ensured he was held accountable and protected other children from him.”

After his release, Williams must register as a convicted sex offender for the rest of his life.
