CoD: Black Ops 6’s Nuketown release date revealed, plus Liberty Falls map changes

Black Ops 6 launches on October 25 with 16 brand new multiplayer maps, but the latest episode of the Call of Duty podcast has revealed that Treyarch’s iconic Nuketown map will return post-launch.

Originally introduced in 2010’s Call of Duty: Black Ops, Nuketown was a map designed as a mockup of a 1950s American suburb used for nuclear testing. It is beloved because it is a small and chaotic map, and it has returned several times over the years with different variations.

The podcast features an interview with Miles Leslie, Treyarch’s associate creative director, who confirms the return of Nuketown in Black Ops 6. The game’s campaign is set in the Gulf War, but when asked if Black Ops 6 would include a ’90s-themed variant of Nuketown, the developer was unable to confirm the map’s setting.

However, shortly after the podcast was released, Treyarch confirmed that the map will arrive on November 1 with a teaser clip showing off a small portion of the map. The design is definitely classic 1950s Nuketown, but not enough of the map is shown to determine what changes can be expected.

The interview also discusses Black Ops 6 Zombies, revealing that another round-based map will be released before the end of the year. The game launches with Terminus and Liberty Falls as the first two round-based Zombies maps.

Liberty Falls received criticism following the map’s reveal on Call of Duty: Next, with some of the community stating that the map’s design looked and felt too casual, without a darker, more traditional Zombies atmosphere.

Activision confirms that Liberty Falls has undergone changes since the map’s reveal, explaining that the map shown at the time was still a work-in-progress. Liberty Falls has since undergone changes to its visual tone for a “moodier feel.” HUD elements are also touched for mode. However, Activision also said that Liberty Falls should still be a smaller and more casual map, while Terminus is a much larger map with a more traditional Zombies feel.

The podcast confirms that more Zombies details will be released closer to the game’s launch. Black Ops 6 will be released on October 25 for Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5 and PC.

The game features a campaign, multiplayer and zombies. Here’s everything we know so far about Black Ops 6 Zombies.
