Sonny Summers Jr. was charged after his baby died

HAZEL GREEN, Ala. (WAFF) – A man is in jail after authorities say his baby died of a drug overdose.

On March 10, deputies say they were dispatched to Butter & Egg Rd. in Hazel Green for a three-month-old baby who was not breathing.

First responders responded to the scene and attempted to save the baby’s life. However, the child was pronounced dead a short time later.

In September, detectives were made aware of the baby’s toxicology report. The report revealed that the child died from a fatal dose of methamphetamine, according to authorities.

Investigators said they determined the child’s father, Sonny Summers Jr., used methamphetamine around the child and then cared for the child.

Summers Jr. was charged with chemical endangerment of a child resulting in death.

Summers Jr. was booked into the Madison County Jail and later released on $20,000 bail.
