KU professor on leave after video of him making ‘reference to violence’

KANSAS CITY, Mo. – A professor at the University of Kansas is on administrative leave over comments he made during a lecture earlier this semester, the university said Wednesday.

The comments, which were captured on a recorded video of the lecture, were an “inappropriate reference to violence,” according to KU.

“The teacher sincerely apologizes and deeply regrets the situation,” the university said in a statement. “His intention was to emphasize his advocacy for women’s rights and equality, and he acknowledges that he has done very poorly in doing so.”

Senator Roger Marshall of Kansas blasted the professor on social media for the comments and called for his resignation.

“Disturbing video from a professor (of the University of Kansas),” Marshall said in the post. “Anyone who says men who don’t vote for Kamala Harris should be ‘lined up and shot’ is deranged and should not be around students or academia. I trust that (KU) will take immediate action and fire this professor.”

In the video, which has gone viral and generated thousands of comments on social media, the professor makes no specific reference to Vice President Kamala Harris.

The professor can also be heard requesting that that part of the lecture be removed from the recording.

“Did I say that? Just take that out of the recording, I don’t want the deans to hear that I said that,” says the professor.

KU said he will be on leave as the investigation into the matter continues.
