Dr. Dre is reportedly being sued for harassment by the psychotherapist who served as his marriage counselor before and during his divorce.

Dr. Charles Sophy is suing the business mogul for $10 million, claiming he incited a “malicious” and “sustained” campaign of harassment, which included “threats of intimidation and violence,” “homophobic rhetoric” and “late-night text messages” . This is evident from a lawsuit obtained by Billboard and Rolling Stone.

Dre’s ex-wife Nicole Young filed for divorce in 2020 after 24 years of marriage, citing irreconcilable differences. According to Sophy’s lawsuit, filed Wednesday: “Rather than treat the mediation process as an opportunity for healing, (Dre) decided to take out his frustrations about the mediation on Dr. Sophy — frustrations that manifested in the form of a nearly year-long lawsuit . long campaign.”

USA TODAY has reached out to Dre’s attorney for comment.

Dre (real name Andre Young), 59, hired Sophy in 2018 and worked with the couple during their 2021 settlement, media reports said. But fourteen months later, Sophy claimed he had received intimidating text messages from the producer out of the blue.

According to a text screenshot cited by the media, Young texted the doctor in February 2023, saying he had been told something “disturbing” and that Sophy would “have to pay for it.”

Also that month, the doctor claims that fake FBI agents showed up at his gated community in an attempt to enter his home and “talk” to him, but were stopped by a security guard, media reports. The incident left Sophy “afraid for his life” and prompted him to wear a bulletproof vest for protection, the complaint said.

The media cited other texts in which the doctor claims that over the course of several months in 2023, Young made further false accusations that he acted inappropriately and threatened the doctor several more times.

In one purported text, Young wrote, “You’re going to have to give me a written apology. If not, I’ll move on. I’m not playing, believe me,” according to Rolling Stone.

Sophy also claimed that some of the threats were based on his sexual orientation.

The doctor is suing for civil intimidation and threats of violence based on sexual orientation, media reports. He has also filed a court order banning contact and asking for a trial, Rolling Stone reports.
