Council Parish Ministries

Pastoral and Financial Advisory Council

Council members advise the pastor on matters concerning the pastoral and financial life of the parish. We identify areas of need and strive to meet those areas through pastoral planning and the ongoing development of services to meet those needs. The Finance Council helps set and approve the budget, helps ensure that the church and related buildings are kept in a good state of repair, that facilities are adequate for the proper operation of the parish, that safety issues are addressed and that the resources entrusted to the parish are used responsibly. The chairperson of the the Pastoral Council is a lay person. The pastor of the parish is chairperson of the Finance Advisory Council

Members of the Pastoral and Financial Advisory Council are appointed by the pastor, based on recommendations made by existing Council members. One third of the membership is replaced each year with members serving a three year term. We strive to appoint members across both genders who are representative of various age groups, experience, and interests, within the parish.

Screening of Volunteers Committee

In keeping with the policy of the Diocese of Hamilton, Our Lady of the Assumption Parish screens all volunteers. Screening is a process designed to create and maintain a safe environment for children and other vulnerable persons and to foster an appropriate match between the volunteer and a particular ministry. The process involves assessing risk, writing position descriptions and discerning the suitability of a volunteer for a given ministry or position. The process also involves ongoing supervision and support of the volunteer. The screening committee is responsible for the screening of volunteers using the tools and support provided by the Diocese.
